The Peterborough Players is set to present the fourth show of its season with a lavish new production of the Oscar Wilde classic AN IDEAL HUSBAND from Wednesday July 30 to Saturday August 10.

This perfect festive offering is a dazzling blend of comedy, morality, sex and politics which explores human frailty and social hypocrisy. Sir Robert Chiltern is the ideal husband - or so his wife believes. But, an unwelcome visit from the past calls the future into question as Wilde's trademark razor-sharp wit lays bare the illusions we use to deceive others and–more importantly–ourselves. The production is directed by Players Artistic Director Gus Kaikkonen, whose successes with Oscar Wilde have included productions of THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST- at the Players - and LADY WINDERMERE’S FAN.

The cast includes Dee Nelson as Mrs Cheveley whose previous roles include Maggie in HOBSON’S CHOICE and Amanda in PRIVATE LIVES; Jack Koenig as Sir Robert Chiltern, previously seen in PRIVATE LIVES, STONES IN HIS POCKETS, RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL and LAUGHING STOCK; Sevanne Martin, as Lady Chiltern, who was seen in PRIVATE LIVES, LAUGHING STOCK, SOLIDARITY and INHERIT THE WIND and Kraig Swartz, as Lord Goring, whose previous credits include STONES IN HIS POCKETS, FULLY COMMITTED, WAIT UNTIL DARK and THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER with James Whitmore. Michael Page is returning to the Players to play the Earl of Caversham. The set is being designed by Charles F. Morgan and the creative team is completed by Eric Larson (lighting), Jose Docen (sound) and Jessa Ray Court (costumes).

Reservations for AN IDEAL HUSBAND may be made at the Players box office (Tuesday through Sunday from 10 to 3pm, through intermission on performance nights), by phone at 603-924-7585 or by visiting the theatre’s website 24/7 at www.peterboroughplayers.org. Don’t forget about “Rush-for-All” on Thursday the 17th, tickets are $15 one hour before the show.

An Ideal Husband is rated “PG-13.”

The Peterborough Players is sponsored in part by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation – Monadnock Region, New England Foundation for the Arts, the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Charitable Foundation, and the A. Erland and Hazel N. Goyette Memorial Fund.
